چکیده

This paper reports the synthesis and characterizations of a new water-soluble pol &JrB phenylene) (PPP) and its applications in preparing self-assembled multi-layer films. This new water-soluble conducting polymer was prepared through the sulfonation reaction of poly(pquarterphenylene-2,2’-dicarboxylic acid). The incorporation of sulfonate groups has dramatically improved PPP’s solubility in water at a wide pH range, whereas previous PPP is only slightly soluble in basic solutions. Dilute aqueous solutions of this polymer with acidic, neutral or basic pH emit brilliant blue light while irradiated with UV light. The sulfonated PPP emits from 350 nm to 455 nm with a maximum intensity at 380 nm. Self-assembled multilayers of this sulfonated PPP were constructed with a positively charged polymer poly(dially1 dimethyl ammonium chloride) and characterized with various surface analyses. Conductive (RuO, and EO), semiconductive (Si wafer), and non-conductive (SO, ) substrates were used in the preparation of self-assembled multilayers. Electrical, optical and structural properties of these novel self-assembled thin fdms will be discussed.

Synthesis and ordered aggregation in water of a blue light-emitting PEO-PHP-PEO triblock oligomer

A novel blue light-emitting coil-rod-coil triblock oligomer, PEO-PHP-PEO, which consists of para-hexaphenyl (PHP) as the rigid rod and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO, M w = 750) as the flexible coil, has been synthesized. It is the first soluble poly(para-phenylene) molecule containing no lateral substituent, which can dissolve not only in organic solvents such as chloroform and THF, but also in wat...

Double helix formation of poly(m-phenylene)s bearing achiral oligo(ethylene oxide) pendants and transformation into an excess of one-handed single helix through cholate binding in water.

A water-soluble poly(m-phenylene) bearing an achiral oligo(ethylene oxide) chain at the 5-position was synthesized by the Ni(0)-mediated homo-coupling polycondensation of a 3,5-dibromophenol monomer. The poly(m-phenylene) adopted a single helical conformation in protic media and self-assembled into a double helix in water through aromatic interaction, while it took a random-coil conformation in...

Multiresponsive Behavior of Functional Poly(p-phenylene vinylene)s in Water

The multiresponsive behavior of functionalized water-soluble conjugated polymers (CPs) is presented with potential applications for sensors. In this study, we investigated the aqueous solubility behavior of water-soluble CPs with high photoluminescence and with a particular focus on their pH and temperature responsiveness. For this purpose, two poly(phenylene vinylene)s (PPVs)—namely 2,5-substi...
